Aero Star Luchador

With outfits like this, how can you not like Lucha Libre?
It's like superheroes wrestling.
This is luchador Aero Star, who has been wrestling since 2003.
And he has worked for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide the whole time, though he has also done some work here in the US as well.
You might know him from Lucha Underground.

CMLL Rudo Angel del Mal

I don't have a lot of info about CMLL luchador Àngel del Mal.
He's a rudo (heel).
He was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
And he held the Occidente Welterweight Championship until being defeated by Metal Blanco on April 4th, 2010 in Arena Coliseo Guadalajara.

CMLL Luchador Angel de Oro

Masked CMLL luchador Angel de Oro was born on March 21st, 1988 in Gomez Palacio, Mexico.
Her is the son of luchador Apolo Chávez and the brother of Ángel de Plata .
He, de Plata and Ángel Azteca, Jr. form Los Ángeles Celestiales ("The Celestial Angels") that I mentioned in the last entry.
Angel de Oro was trained by Gran Cochisse, Corsario Rojo, Diabolico, Satanico and Franco Colombo and made his lucha libre debut in his hometown on July 14th, 2005.
So far in his career he has held the 2011 Reyes del Aire (Kings of the Air) title and the Mexican National Trios Championship (with Rush and Diamante).

Angel Azteca Jr. - Lucha Libre

Angel Azteca Jr. - Lucha Libre

Masked luchador Angel Azteca Jr. is not really the son of the original Angel Azteca, but he did get permission to use the name before the Angel passed away in 2007.
He was trained by Angel Azteca, El Indio Chirikawa and Satánico and made his pro wrestling debut in 1995 at the age of 15 as Cobrita Oriental ("Little Asian Cobra").
After that he took on the name Fantastico II and teamed with Fantastico I to form Los Fantasticos.
As Angel Azteca Jr., he is part of a team called Los Ángeles Celestiales ("The Celestial Angels") along with Ángel de Oro and Ángel de Plata.
He currently works for CMLL.

Atomic Boy - AAA Wrestling

Atomic Boy - AAA Wrestling

AAA Luchador Atomic Boy was born on September 11th, 1991.
He was trained by Dizzy, Gran Apache, Tom Mix Jr. and Mini Abismo Negro.
Atomic Boy made his Lucha Libre debut on November 20th, 2003 not as Atomic Boy, but as Mini Vaquero.
He wrestled under that name until switching to Mini Dizzy.
He adopted the name Atomic Boy in 2008.
Like a lot of other luchadors, he has a wrestling family.
His father is Tom Mix Jr. and his grandfather is (of course) Tom Mix who took their names from Hollywood’s first Western megastar.

I gotta admit, I liked his Dizzy costume better.

AAA Luchador Argos

AAA Luchador Argos

Masked luchador Argos was born on October 14th, 1985 in Mexico City, Mexico.
If his mask and demeanor in the ring look familiar, it's because he is the brother of Místico, who you may know better as WWE Superstar Sin Cara.
That makes Argos the son of Manuel Almanza (Dr. Karonte), the brother of luchadors Astro Boy and Argenis, the cousin of Magnus and the nephew of CMLL booker Tony Salazar.
Argos was trained by Dr. Karonte, Tony Salazar and Franco Colombo and made his pro wrestling debut in 2002.
He is five foot eight and weighs 190 pounds.
Argos has worked for CMLL, AAA and IWRG.
He joined the stable Real Fuerza Aérea AAA in 2011.

AAA Luchador....Abyss?

Yeah I know this is a lucha libre blog, so why is Christopher J. "Chris" Parks, better known as TNA's Abyss here?
Because at the moment, Abyss is one half of the Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) World Tag Team Champions, along with Chessman.
And he's also one half of the Ring Ka King Tag Team Champions along with Scott Steiner in India.
He really gets around.
Anyway, Abyss and Chessman defeated Extreme Tiger and Jack Evans in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match to become the AAA World Tag Team Champions on October 9th, 2011 in Monterrey, Nuevo León at Héroes Inmortales

Super Fly - Lucha Libre AAA

One of the reasons I like Lucha Libre so much is because of the really cool costumes and masks.
Case in point, Super Fly.
Super Fly was born on February 24th, 1987 in Puebla, Puebla, Mexico, and is the son of luchador El Seminarista.
His uncles are all luchadors, Murciélago I, Murciélago II, Murciélago III and Robinson.
He was trained by his father, Skayde and Psicosis, and made his lucha libre debut on May 1st, 2001.
Yes, he was just fourteen years old.
After wrestling for smaller promotions, Super Fly signed with Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) in 2005.
Along with Laredo Kid and Nemesis, he was one of the founding members of Real Fuerza Aérea (Royal Air Force), a group that consisted of young tecnicos (faces) that were high fliers.

After enjoying several years as a hero, Super Fly turned bad and changed not only his tactics, but his ring attire as well.
He left Real Fuerza Aérea and joined two other rudo (heel) groups La Milicia (The Militia) and La Sociedad (The Society, a merger of La Legión Extranjera, Los Perros del Mal, La Milicia and Los Maniacos).

Relampago - Lucha Libre AAA

This interesting looking masked man is Asistencia Asesoría y Administración luchador Relámpago (Lightning).
Relámpago was born on February 14, 1981 in Hermosillo, Sonora.
So happy early birthday!
He was trained by luchadors Ráfaga de Oro, Latino, El Mexicano and Gran Apache, and made his lucha libre debut on May 23rd, 2003 at Arena Obreros del Progreso in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico.
Relámpago won the 2010 AAA/FMF Lucha Futbolistica (Soccer Fight) a joint event put on by the Mexican Football Federation and AAA.
There he was known as Mexico.

There was also a Relampago comic book superhero published in the 1970s.
That character was the first Mexican American superhero in the American comic book industry.

Lucha Libre: El Texano, Jr.

Lucha Libre star El Texano, Jr. was born Juan Aguilar Leos on July 31th, 1984 in Mexico City, Mexico.
He mainly works for the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) wrestling promotion in Mexico, though he has toured with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).
Juan is the son of luchador Juan Conrado Aguilar Jáuregui, who wrestled as El Texano until his death in 2006.
Juan started out as wrestling masked as Kempo Kid.
This went on for two years until he was unmasked by Stuka in Monterrey, Nuevo León, in a match.
After the match, he was recognized as the son of El Texano and began working as El Texano, Jr.
Juan was trained by El Texano, Rambo, Satanico and Shocker.
He made his pro wrestling debut in 2001 in Arandas, Jalisco (as Kempo Kid).
Besides his late father, Juan's brother wrestles as Super Nova and his cousin, Jonathan de Jesus Navarro Gimenez, wrestles as Mictlan.

Pegasso

Pegasso (or Pegaso) was born on February 25, 1978 in Puebla, Puebla, Mexico.
He was trained by Gran Apache, Sombra Salvaje and Irasu.
Pegasso started out in the Indy wrestling promotions in Mexico until he caught the interest of Asistencia Asesoría y Administración.
He went to AAA in 2006 and joined a group called Real Fuerza Aerea.
Pegasso left AAA in 2008 and went to IWRG.
When Rey Cometa went to Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Pegasso went with him.
By all accounts he is a sound technical wrestler, but really hasnt received a "push".
This may be because of rumored attitude problems backstage.

Here is a video from YouTube of Billy Boy, Pegasso and Super Fly wrestling Gran Apache, Gallego and Cóndor

Mistico Updates

Since the last entry I did on Mistico, thankfully he didn't go to WWE.
I say thankfully because I think Mistico is a great wrestler, and the WWE doesn't have a great track record with lucha libre stars.

Even though Mistico didn't go to the WWE, he and Hector Garza became CMLL World Tag Team champions by defeating Averno and Mephisto on March 10, 2008.
But they did turn around and lose the titles in December 2008.

In July 2008, Místico had a huge opportunity as he went to China and participated in the Beijing International Martial Arts Training Camp.
The event was covered by Televisa and shown during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Mistico made his debut for New Japan Pro Wrestling at Wrestle Kingdom III on January 4, 2009.

Negro Casas took Mistico's CMLL Welterweight Championship on March 20, 2009.

Luchador - Anibal

Carlos Ignacio Carrillo Contreras was born on November 5, 1940 in either Topilejo, Zitácuaro or Laureles Michoacán, Mexico. There's some conflict about his birthplace.
Carlos is better known in Lucha Libre as Anibal.
Anibal was trained by Chico Fernández and Salvador Flores and made his pro wrestling debut on November 1963 in Topilejo, Michoacán.
It wasn't until 1991 that Anibal finally lost his mask to Máscara Año 2000 on December 13, 1991 at the Arena México in Mexico City.
3 years later Anibal passed away on March 9, 1994 at age 53.
During his career, Anibal held several titles including the Distrito Federal Light Heavyweight Wrestling Title, the NWA World Middleweight Title Wrestling twice, the National Middleweight Wrestling Title, UWA World Middleweight Wrestling Title, UWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Wrestling Title twice, the WWC World Junior Heavyweight Wrestling Title in Puerto Rico and the European Middleweight Wrestling Title in Panama.
There is an El Hijo de Aníbal that wrestles in Lucha Libre, but it's not known if this is the actual son of Anibal or not.
Anibal wrestled for EMLL (Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre) the promotion that later changed it's name to CMLL.

The WWE versus CMLL and AAA

The closest I wanna see WWE and Lucha Libre, Shelly Martinez and Vampiro

Well, the WWE has moved into Mexico and are ready to go up against Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre.
Last month WWE Smackdown's debuted on Azteca TV and was the most-watched TV program in prime time from Oct. 3 to 19.
The show drew a 9.0 rating and over 1.2 million TV households tuned in.
WWE Raw debuted on Sunday, Oct. 5 on Televisa to similar results.
I really hope this is a " Interest Factor", people watching WWE just to see what its all about, because I don't see how this would be good for Lucha Libre.
Of course Lucha's storylines are just as exaggerated as the WWE's, but Lucha in Mexico is tradition.
I'd hate to see CMLL and AAA go they way of ECW here in the US. Seeing WWE buy out the two big companies would just give you a watered down version of each.
I shudder to think of " WWE CMLL" or " WWE Friday Night AAA".
I know many of the WWE stars are wildly popular in Mexico and as long as WWE stays a separate entity things may be okay.
But I'd hate to see the memories of El Santo, Mil Máscaras or Blue Demon lumped in with the Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo affair, the Fake Kane or the Red Rooster someday.

Lucha Libre: Angel Azteca II and Angel Azteca Jr

A couple of other Luchadores have wrestled in Mexico under the name "Angel Azteca".
Neither one is related to the original Angel though.
There was this guy Angel Azteca II....

And this guy Angel Azteca Jr.

Like I said, neither was related to the original, but Angel Azteca did train both of them.
